Getting Ready For Baby

Pregnancy

Many preparations must be made in getting ready for the new arrival in a family. A few of these include the baby shower, the registry, and creating a safe and calming environment for the coming infant.

The Baby Shower

The baby shower is one of the most looked-toward events on the pregnancy calendar. During this event, other mothers and family members throw a party to welcome the child and provide the new parents with much-needed objects, clothes, and funds for the newcomer in the family. This social occasion has evolved from a desultory event to a well-planned, fund-raising festivity. Food, presents, and games are the standard for these baby showers. While these events used to be limited to women, nowadays “Jack and Jill” baby showers that include men are quite popular. If both sexes attend the event, it is important to choose entertainment that takes account of both genders. For instance, one baby shower game is based on the names of the parents. Attendees of the baby shower are asked to create a name for the baby using letters from the mother and father’s names. The person who can come up with the most baby names wins the game. This game is a good choice because not only does it involve guests that are male and female, the father is included as well.

The Baby Registry

Many factors come into play because of the baby shower, including the creation of a baby registry. Creating a registry involves choosing one or two main stores and providing family and baby shower invitees with a list of needed items. Diapers, strollers, clothing, and cribs are some examples of things that might be included on the registry. Some stores have simplified systems that provide the parents with a barcode scanner. Parents may walk around the store and scan an item using a laser ‘gun,’ easily adding the item to their list. Another method is to go online and add items via a website or online registry. This enables family members and friends to purchase and ship the item to the pregnant mother if there is a great distance separating them from the parents. This online solution is also useful if the purchasers do not have a local chain of the store in their own town; they may still access the list and provide useful gifts to the expectant parents. The registry also has the added benefit of keeping track of when items are purchased, in order to avoid duplication. This in turn saves time and money by eliminating the need for returns on multiple items.

The Baby’s Room

The next consideration when expecting a child is the decoration and safety-review of the baby’s room. Once all of the equipment has been installed from the shower, it is important to make sure that the space is safe. Outlets must be covered and a changing table should be installed to save the backs of the parents who will be changing the little one. Including a glider rocker or rocker of some type enables a mother to relax while nursing her baby, or provides a father with a comfortable place to sit while feeding baby a bottle. A thick carpet provides a cushioned place for baby to play, while shades that will block out light during midday naps are essential as well.

Although these preparations are very important for the well-being of the baby, they are also a lot of fun for the parents. While taking care of these plans, parents can anticipate the arrival of their little one and create warm and welcoming memories for their infant as well as themselves.
