According to tradition in many cultures, the future groom shops privately and purchases the ring to be presented to his choice when he proposes her. But now days the couples generally prefer to buy the rings together and in the countries where the tradition of both the partners wear ring is followed, in such cases matching engagement rings are selected and purchased together.

The price of an engagement ring vary from ring to ring and depends on the design of the ring, the material used and if it includes a gemstone, then the value of any gemstone and its seller also is considered as a major factor in estimating its price.

When shopping for a ring with costly gemstones such as diamond etc then the quality of the gemstone is considered as a significant point in determining the price of the ring. Diamonds have certain specified descriptions that determine their values and are distinguished on the basis of color, clarity, carat weight and cut.

Some other gemstones such as rubies, sapphires, moissanite are less common choices when it comes to engagement rings. These stones are generally used for the purpose of honoring some family traditions, to use as family heirlooms, and to be socially responsible and sometimes as individual’s style preference.
